Upgrading Your Thanksgiving Table

Hard to believe it’s that time of year again, the holidays are just a few weeks away! Although the excitement creeps in of seeing family and friends you don’t get to see too frequently, the overwhelming feeling also creeps in – is my house going to be ready for guests?? Luckily, thanks to the internet, there are a lot of tried and true, and a few new ideas to decorate your Thanksgiving table this year – and we found a few that come with a small price tag.

– Pumpkin Floral Arrangements – A cool new twist on a basic idea, combining your pumpkins and floral centerpieces into one is a big hit this holiday season. Most of the time you have some pumpkins left over from Halloween, but if you not you can grab a couple at the store – they stick around for a while, and even better the prices tend to go down as November progresses. All you have to do is cut off the top of the pumpkin – a straight cut across the top – and hollow out the pumpkin. Fill the inside with floral foam – the green kind that can retain moisture. The cool part is you can use pumpkins of any size, and a variety makes for a cool centerpiece. After filling it with the foam, take apart a floral arrangement (again – you can save some money because you can buy the inexpensive arrangement at the florist because you are going to take it apart anyway!), cut down the flowers, and arrange them to fill up the pumpkin. It gives you the fragrance of the pumpkin, the flowers, and a great look!

– Upgrading your Pumpkins – Depending on the crowd you are having over for the holiday, you can adjust this idea. If you are going for a classy, more sophisticated look – grab some white, silver, or gold spray paint. If you are going for a more fun, kid friendly atmosphere – grab some vibrant colors. Take any pumpkins – usually the smaller pumpkins work better, and head outside. Spray paint them – one color per pumpkin, for an instant upgraded look. If you are having kids over, you can also use it as a fun activity after dinner to let them use markers to color on the painted pumpkins!

– Bring the Outdoors In – A tried and true idea, why go to the store, when you have the outdoors at your fingertips. There is nothing more festive for a fall holiday then vases filled with acorns, pine cones, and colorful leaves. If you aren’t in an area with a lot of leaves – or don’t like the idea of leaves on your dinner table, you can grab inexpensive leaves from most craft stores that look almost exactly the same.

Happy Decorating and Happy Thanksgiving!!
