When it comes to cellular shades, what is the go-to option? Well there are a few different options to have.  For instance, cellulars come in light filtering or blackout. Light filtering is typically used when you want to have light in the room but maintain privacy. Blackout, on the other hand, is used to achieve complete darkness. Most people would use light filtering for rooms such as living, dining, and kitchen rooms; anyplace you’d find a large gathering of people. Blackout is mainly used in areas you might want to keep dark, such as a bedroom or TV room to keep the glare of the sun off of the screen.

What is the best product for insulation value? The truth of the matter is any blind or shade is going to help with insulation, although vinyl isn’t as good as fabric for insulation. The only product however, that is rated for top insulation is cellular shades. The reason being is that they are designed in the shape of a honeycomb pleat. Each pleat traps pockets of air inside and enables the shade to either keep a room cool in the summer or warm during the winter.

It’s winter. Again. Which means its time to get out the heavy blankets, wool coats, and warm sweaters. It’s time to change the curtains out from the delicate sheers, and replace them with the heavy drapes. The sweaters and jackets, I can deal with. Really because there is no other option. But taking those drapes out again, got me to thinking, what else can I do with these windows??

Bigger vs Smaller

We bought a house about a year ago that has a good size sunroom.  The sunroom is in the front of the house.  It gets really hot in the summer, and really drafty in the winter.  My husband and I like to spend time in the sun room,  mostly in the morning to drink our coffee and sometimes at night.  I’d heard about the cellular shades that are supposed to insulate by keeping the room warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer.  So I started researching, because I only wanted to do this once and I wanted to make sure that I was getting the best product that would help me with this issue.
