Summer Ends but the Best of Fall Begins

By Darius J.

The end of summer can be a bummer, but never fear pumpkin spice lattes and cozy throws are here! It’s time to introduce a snuggly makeover to your casa. Adding decor upgrades such as accent pillows, metal art and area rugs can tie in the new season seamlessly.  Accent pillows come in all shapes and sizes, plus the color options are endless. Not to mention tossing a few accent pillows on the couch in the living room or in the master bedroom will compliment the furniture and/or fabric color(s), and add a dash of comfy cozy chic to the fall season.

If you have mastered finding the perfect pillows, then finding metal art will be a breeze. Art can be warm and cozy or vibrant and cool, equally important metal art such as sculptures have mixed designs with multiple metal elements like copper, nickel, brass and gold. Mixing metal art decor will compliment the change in the season like the color variation in the leaves.

Given these points you can create your own funky artistic vibes to match your inner interior designer. Once your metal art selections are in place then all thats left is to find an area rug to complete the new look. Bold textures like wool, plush and fury area rugs will make the new season come to light. To be mentioned last is choosing a color and texture like rust or teal wool that will turn your home into a warm, comfy, relaxing space. A wool area rug in any color will change how you feel about summers sudden end. Just add a few candles  as well as blanket, and wallah you’re walking into fall the right way.

Fall 2017 Colors

“That color is SO in right now!” Something we have all heard before in one way or another. Well, wouldn’t you like to know exactly what colors are IN for the Fall 2017? We have the top colors for both decor and fashion listed below and even included some helpful hints of where and how to use them. The best part of this group of colors is that even if you decided to use every color in the room, it would STILL look amazing! They just blend that well together. Let’s dive in, shall we?

Grenadine is just as it sounds. RED. It’s a very pure and rich red tone that works as the perfect accent color. This red would also make a bold statement in any home when placed as a statement piece, like a single chair or a large piece of wall art with Grenadine being the main color.

Tawny Port is a very deep burgundy/purple tone with an almost brownish hue to it. This color could be used to bring out the wood in flooring, furniture or other larger statement pieces in your space. If you had a mostly white room, this color would also be a great color to use as an accent due to its’ rich potency and heaviness.

Ballet Slipper is the most feminine of the colors by far. This pale pink is every so dainty and would look amazing with rose gold colored accents in a little girls room.

Butterum  & Autumn Maple just SCREAM “fall colors”. Together these two colors just perfectly describe what that “perfect autumn tree” would look like with its’ deep oranges and yellowish brown tones. Again, great for accent colors to use throughout a space to truely get that Fall look inside your home.

Navy Peony is a beautiful deep navy blue tone that is so dark it almost has black undertones, but when the light hits it right, this color really shines. This color is perfect for accents or bold statement pieces like a sofa or loveseat.

Neutral Gray is exactly as it is named. It is the most basic of grays with what seems like an almost perfect balance of white and black. This gray would make for an excellent accent wall color in a large space or even an area rug that focused on multiple grays.

Shaded Spruce looks like you walked deep into an evergreen forrest, looked up amidst the towering trees and then took a picture. This green tone is so true to its name it’s almost scary! A gorgeous color to help offset those Butterum and Autumn Maple accents in the space as well!

Golden Lime is the “wild one” of the bunch. It’s almost like a lime went and had one too many margaritas during happy hour.  A funky blend of green and yellow together to make this fun accent color which would be a neat way to help accent the reds and blue in the room.

And finaly we have Marina; a salty sea blue that stays true to its name. A great way to help lighten up that Navy Peony too!

Easing Into Fall

It seems as though the calendar just speeds right past us ever so much faster as each year goes by. The changing colors of each season are a dramatic reminder that time is not always on our side. Believe it or not, October is just right around the corner, and that means Autumn is coming! Time to cue in the quintessential pumpkin-orange, burgundy, plum and dark brown color palettes. But let’s just pause for a second… sure there is nothing wrong with these beautiful deep colors, but why not ease into these bold hues by incorporating more neutral colors and rustic elements into your home décor.

Use familiar but non-traditional colors— Try using neutrals such as gradients of charcoal, muted greens, navy and beiges. Compliment them with light blues, khaki and even camel. You can then accent these colors with gold metallics and different hues of berry. Use this palette on your throw pillows alongside window sheers and curtains for a slight variation without the dramatic shock of change. These colors are available year round, and you might actually have these pieces lying around the house already.

Give the orange pumpkin a new look— Pumpkins are not just for jack-o-lanterns and sidekicks to scarecrows anymore. They can be a star on their own by giving them a new color, and even distressing them. Go neutral and paint the pumpkins cream, light gray or slate blue. Then, pair them up with mossy greens and earthy browns for a beautiful and inviting tablescape. If you already have a rustic theme incorporated in your home, you can distress real or plastic pumpkins to compliment your style. Try using beige-colored chalkboard paint, and then use a toothbrush to create a crackled effect. For a more warm and vintage look, you can cover the pumpkin with burlap, wool threads, yarn and lace.

Copper and herbs— Time to take out your copper pots and pans. Believe it or not, these color-appropriate vessels are more than just for cooking. They provide a great base for flowers like zinnias and echinaceas during the season. Also, why not use the herbs readily available in your grocery store. Rosemary, thyme and sage are not only abundant during this time, but they will make your space smell phenomenal, and give you that earthy aroma so reminiscent of Autumn.

Remember, there is more to Autumn than just foliage, reds and oranges. So this season, why not play with these three ideas and slowly incorporate the familiar into something new and festive!

Tis the Season to make this House a Home

By: Meghan

Fall- the air is as crisp as granny smith apples. The leaves have changed from green to gold, to russet, to pumpkin orange. We are bundling up, drinking hot cider, and some homes have that tell tale silver smoke coming from chimneys. We are warming our homes, our hearts are full, and soon our bellies will match. Loved ones will be flocking like geese soon to our homes- and oh no! Our tables are set with our finest china, with Autumn colored runners- in rich browns, greens, reds, yellows- we have our best silver- but our windows! So long basic vinyl and aluminum, items that we bought ions ago to cover windows, items that came with the house, things to put on windows, but things that don’t have our touch, our signature! We need items to turn this house into a home!
