Summer Ends but the Best of Fall Begins

By Darius J.

The end of summer can be a bummer, but never fear pumpkin spice lattes and cozy throws are here! It’s time to introduce a snuggly makeover to your casa. Adding decor upgrades such as accent pillows, metal art and area rugs can tie in the new season seamlessly.  Accent pillows come in all shapes and sizes, plus the color options are endless. Not to mention tossing a few accent pillows on the couch in the living room or in the master bedroom will compliment the furniture and/or fabric color(s), and add a dash of comfy cozy chic to the fall season.

If you have mastered finding the perfect pillows, then finding metal art will be a breeze. Art can be warm and cozy or vibrant and cool, equally important metal art such as sculptures have mixed designs with multiple metal elements like copper, nickel, brass and gold. Mixing metal art decor will compliment the change in the season like the color variation in the leaves.

Given these points you can create your own funky artistic vibes to match your inner interior designer. Once your metal art selections are in place then all thats left is to find an area rug to complete the new look. Bold textures like wool, plush and fury area rugs will make the new season come to light. To be mentioned last is choosing a color and texture like rust or teal wool that will turn your home into a warm, comfy, relaxing space. A wool area rug in any color will change how you feel about summers sudden end. Just add a few candles  as well as blanket, and wallah you’re walking into fall the right way.

Jumpstart Holiday Decorating

It’s October, and before we know it, the holidays will be upon us. Now is the time to get your home ready; especially if entertaining is in your future. It is best to prepare ahead and not wait to do things last minute. The holidays should be enjoyable, not feel like drudgery. By putting the work in ahead of time, you can savor the beautiful home you have created and enjoy the festive holiday season.

These are the steps I take to jumpstart my holiday decorating:

Clear out and throw out. That means everything from closets to drawers. Pull everything out of each space and get rid of all the clutter. Make designated piles along the way while emptying too to help keep your stuff organized. (i.e. Keep Pile, Donate Pile, Trash Pile, etc)

Assess and Make a List. This is where you go from room to room, check out the condition of each room and its contents. Does paint need to be touched up? Holes need to be spackled?  Pillows restitched? It’s your time to take note of those “small things” that build up over the months or even years that you maybe keep putting off.

Prioritize. It would be great if we could completely redecorate or tackle everything on our “to do” lists, but life gets in the way and sometimes that just isn’t possible. This is where prioritizing and budget becomes key. If your sofa is looking worn but a new one isn’t in the cards right now, buy a decorative throw or maybe some throw pillows to add some new life to it.

Hopefully these tips will help you to prep for the busy holiday season that is quickly approaching! but in the mean time, enjoy the Fall!

Decor For The Common Space

Spring time is the best time for cleaning and redecorating the home. If you are seeing ideas to for revamping your common space that will leave it looking fresh and springy, here are a couple of ideas that will leave you in a great mood.

Keeping things neat.

Keep a brightly colored box or a oversized woven basket that goes well with the spring theme in the common area to hold your everyday used items, such as a remote, magazines, or keys. That way everything will stay clutter free and tidy.

While we are still in the common area, why not bring some nature into the space, by adding plants. Faux plants works well if you do not want to worry about watering the for the whole season. And to also create a laid back look for the entertainment area between the get togethers with your friends, adding a Mediterranean inspired tray on the coffee with fruit on it, instead of magazines goes well with the spring theme.

Throw pillows

Adding bright colors, such as lemon yellow, lime green, or sky blue colored case on your pillows also goes with the spring theme. And if you want to jazz it up even more, adding cases with zig zags or geometric shapes will go a long way.

Removing your dark and heavy wool carpet you had all winter long with something light and airy is a great way to go. If you don’t like the idea of keeping the carpet, exposing the hardwood floor or tiles is a great way to make the space feel less cluttered.

Window dressing

After all that work you can’t forget about your windows. A great product I would recommend is the Fiji Bamboo- Roman shade to bring the nature material of the outdoors inside.
