Tips for Furnishing a Sunroom

Your sunroom should flow nicely from continuous rooms. It should also flow nicely to the outdoors. There are a few ways you can do this. Most importantly, make sure furniture and décor is similar to that of the rest of the house. Use coordinating or complementing styles and colors. The use of plants in the room helps the flow to outside, but be careful not to go overboard with them. If your sunroom leads right out onto a patio or deck, consider using the same type of flooring, and if it does lead outside, carpet is probably not a good choice. It could get very dirty very quickly. There are many different indoor/outdoor tiles. If the floors are hard, add area rugs for softness. You are not restricted to indoor furniture either.

Sunroom Decorating Mistakes

Whether you are moving into a home with a sunroom or having one built, the most important thing to keep in mind when decorating is what the sunroom is going to be used for. Not what you would like it to be used for, but what it will actually be used for. Sometimes these are very different things. If you just want to lounge around in it and enjoy the sun, make it comfortable. If it is going to be used for dining or dinner parties, make sure it has a table. What you will ultimately use it for will also determine the colors you choose, as color affects the mood of the room. Make sure you determine your sunroom’s main use before you do anything to it or it may end up as extra storage space.

Sunny Days Have Come and Gone

Two weeks ago my husband built a new sunroom addition to our home that overlooks a lake. The scenery is absolutely beautiful, but the problem is the sun. The sun beats down so hard during the day that I can no longer stand to even be in the room. The windows are actually the entire front facing wall of the room, from ceiling to floor. The rest of the walls are painted a pale silver blue. And the furniture all a light grey color, the material being leather. There is also a grey swirl carpet that sits in the center that acts as a focal point to the room and  on top of it sits a stainless steel coffee table. On the other walls are pictures of still life shots of flowers at various angles.
