Being Cold is so 2013! (So is unnecessary expenses!)

By: Meghan

Snow storms are happening, it is winter time after all. (Yes really, already!) The temperature is plummeting, and heating bills are sky rocketing. Gas, oil, electric, and even buying wood for those wood stoves can get costly. You don’t want to go into debt so you are wearing long johns, wooly socks, flannels, sweats, and it is almost getting to the time to resort to mittens, scarves, and hats in the house. Stop! Chances are, even though the cool nights have just begun, thoughts are already on your mind of how expensive the heating bills are going to be all winter.  Memories of the huge bills from last years chilly winter are flashing in your head.  And the reminder of telling yourself you were going to do some updates over the summer to prevent such bills from coming up this year…

Time to do something about those windows where the chill is coming in. You could crank up the heat, oh wait- you want to buy presents this year- and not everyone has a fireplace. Even if you do you are already cleaning- soot isn’t a good look. Maybe wrap the windows in plastic? Make everyone where parkas, and mittens? Though plastic takes away from your decor, and eating cranberry sauce and pie in parkas? Eating cookies in mittens?

Cellular Shades For My Living Room

By: Dominic

I live in a three bedroom apartment in the city and have a large picture window in my living room. I had a thin fabric sheer over the window but no blinds. I didn’t really get any privacy from the curtain that hangs over the window which kind of annoyed me. Another problem is the draft that I’ve been feeling coming through the window. I never really noticed the draft until the temperature started dropping, and with winter fast approaching I decided that I needed to do something about it. I heard of cellular shades and how they are a great insulator for your windows and I decided to check them out and see if they would be a good fit for me.
