Mounting Decisions??

So after realizing the windows in my new home were far from standard sizes, I set out to look for some custom blinds. I’m not the fanciest decorator, so I wanted something simple, yet something that was decorative enough to stand alone – curtains are definitely not on my to do list. I liked the idea of having control over the light and privacy – – so I decided I would need to stick to blinds instead of shades. Verticals are awful (at least in my opinion) – almost as awful as aluminum blinds. So I decided on faux wood.

Wood Blinds stick out vs. outside

If given the choice I will always go with an inside mount. Everywhere I have ever lived I have had wood blinds and they have been inside mounted. My windows have always been deep with extended sills so my blinds always sat nice and neatly. Mounting my blinds on the inside of the window has always allowed me the chance to show off my decorative molding, and it has allowed me to put my curtain on the outside. I have always done it this way and it’s just made my life a lot easier. In my new home I ran into a dilemma that I have not been able to fix. My dilemma is that the depth of my windows is an inch and a half. For wood blinds this is the in between zone where I can mount it on the inside but with a two inch slat it will stick out, or I can mount it on the outside and have it completely outside.

Inside or Outside??

When you shop for blinds either in a store or online, one of the first questions you will be prompted with is – inside or outside mount?? After the first time when I responded (and thoroughly embarrassed myself) – “Um, obviously I’m putting them inside my house” – I was slightly, but not much, less confused.  I now understand that both inside and outside mount are, inside your house, and refers to whether you are mounting the treatments on the inside or outside of your molding.
