 By: Dominic014_smartcell_lf_stone_022

There are a few questions that you should ask yourself when looking for window treatments for your sunroom. These questions should include things like light, privacy, decor, function, and insulation. The general purpose to most sunrooms is to have a comfortable room where one can go to relax. Most people prefer for their sunrooms to be bright with natural light.

Cellulars for My Sunroom

By: SherrySOLIDTONES_1202A

I had purchased my house not too long ago and I am very lucky to have a sunroom. I love how sunny and bright the room is. It is the room I usually try to sit in during the afternoon when I want to relax. Right away, I hung up paper shades because I have close neighbors and needed something so I wouldn’t be a fishbowl. But after a month, I was ready to purchase something permanent.

On the Cellular Level: Light Filtering vs. Blackout and Their Options

By: AishaCL-synergy_antiqueWhite

When it comes to cellular shades, what is the go-to option? Well there are a few different options to have.  For instance, cellulars come in light filtering or blackout. Light filtering is typically used when you want to have light in the room but maintain privacy. Blackout, on the other hand, is used to achieve complete darkness. Most people would use light filtering for rooms such as living, dining, and kitchen rooms; anyplace you’d find a large gathering of people. Blackout is mainly used in areas you might want to keep dark, such as a bedroom or TV room to keep the glare of the sun off of the screen.

Insulation Renovation

By: AishaModern bedroom

What is the best product for insulation value? The truth of the matter is any blind or shade is going to help with insulation, although vinyl isn’t as good as fabric for insulation. The only product however, that is rated for top insulation is cellular shades. The reason being is that they are designed in the shape of a honeycomb pleat. Each pleat traps pockets of air inside and enables the shade to either keep a room cool in the summer or warm during the winter.

Curtains and Blinds and Shades. Oh My!

By: CarrieFAMILYRMREDCELLULAR

When my cousin bought her first home this spring, we converted a large nook area into a sunroom. She was thrilled to have a place all her own where she could relax in the sun with a good book.  But, a sunroom is essentially a greenhouse. All that glass traps in the heat. That’d be great for plants but it’s not so much fun for a young woman!

Problem identified, we went out in search of a solution. Cutting the heat down was important, but so was insulation. The windows are old and not well insulated, and she can’t afford to heat the whole outdoors come winter! It’s also on a small lot with nosey neighbors on each side so privacy is a big concern too.

Beating the Heat

When it gets too hot or sunny, I break out in hives. No one has been able to figure out why, it’s just a fact of life for me. Accordingly, I try to stay indoors in the spring and summer. However, last year we decided to completely renovate our living room in the middle of summer. The only available space to move the television, chairs, and computer? Why, the sunroom, of course!

A sweltering glass room… Even with the air conditioning on and fans at full blast, I was an itchy, sweaty mess. It was shaping up to be the worst summer of my life. Finally, I’d had enough. This was MY house and I had a right to relax in it without breaking out in hives. It was time to get window coverings.

Endless Options For Your Sunroom!

By: RhiannonSateen White Roller

There are so many ways to decorate your sunroom! Just by changing or adding blinds or shades you can transform drab and dreary to fun and exciting!
For instance, if you like the look of shutters and want a cottage feel but find they are a little out of your budget, you can opt for 2″ faux wood blinds instead. Faux wood is durable, easy to clean and can withstand heat & humidity, a great alternative!
Or, say you want to go tropical to accent that new hot tub you just got, just by adding woven woods you could go from everyday sunroom to a tropical oasis.

Cellular Shades In My Sunroom

By: Dominic

I have a large sunroom in the back of my house with many windows. I have always had metal mini blinds in the room but I had learned that mini blinds are not ideal when it comes to conserving energy. The room gets a lot of sun, and as you can imagine, during the hot summer it can be pretty brutal. The sun room was an addition to the house and does not have central air in it. I had put a small window AC in the room but all the cold air was escaping out of the windows. I heard of energy efficient window treatments and how they make a remarkable difference so I figured that I needed to check it out.

Insulating Shades For A New Look And Temperature

SOLIDTONES_1202ABy: Brenna

Now that my children have moved out for good, I am left with an empty back bedroom. No furniture, no window treatments, nothing. I have big plans for finally creating my in home office with this new available space. Sadly, I have been avoiding the room since the kids moved out because the temperature in the room is often unbearable. The windows are old and the air comes through every seam. So in the winter it is freezing, and in the summer it is stifling. After looking into the cost of new windows and installation, I backed away from that idea.
