Can the real wood blind please stand up?

By: Ashley

“Do you sell shutters?” This question has been popping up repeatedly lately, no matter what window treatment facility your at. This is due to the growing demand of consumers wanting a product similar to traditional wood blinds, but with a slightly different opening style and look. Traditional shutters are mounted from the outside of your house and used to combat extreme weather conditions; i.e. tropical storms, hurricanes, tornadoes, etc. These same depicted shutters can be found still on homes located in the midwest and south. Nowadays shutters have evolved and moved inside homes. Modern shutters, found in various colors, are normally found mounted inside homes. They are unable to be lifted up and down like traditional blinds, but you can tilt the slats with a rod that is normally in the middle of the shutter blind. Shutters are very nice in style and can accentuate your decor, but they can become a hassle to install and a damper on a rainy day fund.

Sitting Duck: Life Behind a Slider

By: Ashley

HV2-063
When looking at houses, many people love the fact that somewhere in their lower level house, they will have a sliding glass door. But no one understands that once you move in your going to need to cover the slider, to avoid becoming a sitting duck! Sliders will not only allow tons of light to stream in, but privacy levels will drop dramatically. The initial discussion becomes do I deal with it or waste tons of money covering up this huge slider? There are many products out there on the market that could potentially be put up as a window treatment, but the price tag could have you second guessing your judgement.

Large Sunroom, Small Budget

By: Brenna

SOFTLO1202A Now that my husband and I have retired, we are spending a lot more time together around the house.  Our main room of choice has recently been the sunroom. It is an area off the back of the house with 4 large windows, which take up a majority of the wall space. We have never had any window treatments to cover them because we have a lush wooded area surrounding our yard. This makes it not only private, but also provides an attractive view.  Since we now occupy this room during most of the daylight hours, we have discovered how unpleasant and harsh the sun’s rays can be during certain times. And this has disrupted any leisurely activity we may have been doing in the room at that time.

Aluminum Blinds: Underrated?

By: Karen

I recently moved into a new house, with a lot of windows. I think there were somewhere around 30 windows throughout the whole house. And, of course, when I moved in there was absolutely nothing in the windows, the previous owners decided not to leave anything behind. Which, I suppose was fine, because I really did not like the look of the printed pleated shades they had in the windows. But it did mean that I was going to have to do some fast shopping unless I wanted the neighbors to know everything I was doing inside the house.

Poor Man Top Down Bottom Up

By: Erica

The other day I was doing my early morning stretches like I always do on my Wii fit, and was rudely interrupted by someone peeking into my room. I was absolutely floored knowing that I can’t be in the privacy of my own home without someone peeking in at me. They are either looking at my plasma TV or me, not to toot my own horn, but I think me. (ha) Now, I don’t have anything currently on the window and didn’t plan on getting anything since it is just a work out room, but apparently I need to. I just keep getting hit with expenses since I moved into this condo! I thought I was in the clear since all the other windows were covered with blinds (they are huge windows). Which actually makes me question why this one wasn’t? So frustrating that I have to cover this great window, I have a great view of the center courtyard garden and was hoping not to close it off. The unit I am in doesn’t have too many windows that get sunlight like this one does! (I guess that might be why it’s not covered…). Regardless, I NEED something to give me some privacy, light, and is cheap!
