Winter is officially here. Keeping the cold out of your house is literally a topic of conversation in your house once a week. The yearly debate of whether to cover the windows with the insulating plastic, buy some lined curtains, or invest in new windows coverings is now back on the table. The good thing is, new cellular shades have given a new look to a style that has been around for awhile.
Let me back up a step and explain cellular shades in case you aren’t familiar with them. These shades are constructed out of two layers of polyester fabric, that are pleated, and fused together on the pleats – creating the look of a honeycomb if you were to look at the shade from a side perspective. The concept behind the construction is that they are creating an air pocket, that will keep the heat you are paying for in, and the cool you don’t want – out. The added bonus is that they will have the reverse effect in the summer months when you want to keep your air conditioning inside. They can operate traditionally, with a cord to raise them up and down, a continuous cord loop, or you can order them cordless. More recently, the option has been added to order them motorized, so you can operate them from your bed with a simple remote control.  Another useful feature is that you can have them open from either the top or the bottom if you have pesky neighbors you don’t want seeing in your windows! This meaning you can have the shade closed completely and just let a little light in from the top of the shade by lowering the secondary headrail as much as you would like to allow natural light to come in while still maintaining your privacy.
The traditional style of cellular shades pair well with the modern look of them. They give you a clean look and are a stand alone treatment. Now, as I mentioned above, they have recently come out in a variety of different colors with patterns that can give your windows a pop! They are available in a few different textures that give them some dimension, a couple different patterns that soften up the look of the fabric (that some say is very plain on its own), and the newest style lends itself to a natural look with the texture reminiscent of a woven wood shade. And of course, they are all available in the neutral tones, but do come in more bright and bold colors in case you want to make a little more of a statement.Continue Reading

In summer, temperatures can become record breaking high very easily from causing you to feel unbearably hot to forcing you to crank up the A/C and fans, therefore, costing you more money pertaining to your electric bills. The amount of sunlight that can come through these kind of windows (depending if it receives direct sunlight can be overwhelming, creating it to be uncomfortable and overbearing for anyone to endure. A room, no matter which, should not be described in this way, and if you would use these words I think it is time to do something about that skylight.Continue Reading
