Summer Ends but the Best of Fall Begins

By Darius J.

The end of summer can be a bummer, but never fear pumpkin spice lattes and cozy throws are here! It’s time to introduce a snuggly makeover to your casa. Adding decor upgrades such as accent pillows, metal art and area rugs can tie in the new season seamlessly.  Accent pillows come in all shapes and sizes, plus the color options are endless. Not to mention tossing a few accent pillows on the couch in the living room or in the master bedroom will compliment the furniture and/or fabric color(s), and add a dash of comfy cozy chic to the fall season.

If you have mastered finding the perfect pillows, then finding metal art will be a breeze. Art can be warm and cozy or vibrant and cool, equally important metal art such as sculptures have mixed designs with multiple metal elements like copper, nickel, brass and gold. Mixing metal art decor will compliment the change in the season like the color variation in the leaves.

Given these points you can create your own funky artistic vibes to match your inner interior designer. Once your metal art selections are in place then all thats left is to find an area rug to complete the new look. Bold textures like wool, plush and fury area rugs will make the new season come to light. To be mentioned last is choosing a color and texture like rust or teal wool that will turn your home into a warm, comfy, relaxing space. A wool area rug in any color will change how you feel about summers sudden end. Just add a few candles  as well as blanket, and wallah you’re walking into fall the right way.

Fall Refresh

By Monica B.

With September here and Labor Day behind us, we’re officially started into the fall season. Its time where work and school pick up again, and we move away from the lazy days of summer. While we’re getting back into our routines and potentially a more challenging workload, it can be a great time for a refresh as we enter this new season.

I love the fall. The air has a crisp feel and the smell of the autumn outdoors gives me a happy feeling. If your family is like mine, for much of the summer we have the windows closed and the air conditioning on because its just too hot and humid. Now that fall is here, I love opening the windows to let the cool air circulate and refresh the house naturally. Thinking about window treatments even though I enjoy the open look in the living room. I highly recommend woven shades. They work great with giving me the cottage and warm feeling when enjoying my hot cocoa and my fire place in the fall.  Woven shades not only serve the purpose for the fall but they are also great window treatments for all seasons, for all styles and for all rooms. With a rich selection of dark earth tones to white, bone and gray, the weaves are visually striking.  Woven shades can be versatile even when you combine with fabric drapery or drapery panels. Woven wood shades come in a variety of styles from roman shades to panel tracks. If you need privacy, you can choose a blackout liner or light filtering liner and all kinds options to bring more character to your woven shade. The liner can extend the life of your shade, prevent fading and reduce energy cost.  For the finishing touch your new woven shades, you can frame these shades with edge bonding in a bold color to contrast or a subtle look.

Holiday decorating can help make the season more special and get your guest into the spirit of the seasons changing.  You can enjoy the season without stressing about perfection and still be able to look out your windows to watch the leaves fall and soon the snow falling off the branches.

Bring the Warmth of Fall Indoors

Autumn Decor for Living Room – Bring in the warmth of Fall Indoors!

Summer has sadly come to an end, and while we may not be hitting the beaches and going to the cottage, we can instead embrace the cozy  warmth of a crisp fall day. Autumn is a time for nesting – for cozying up on the couch with a cup of tea and beloved book or enjoying the great outdoors and hiking the trails, taking in the changing fall foliage.

A great start  to getting your room fall-friendly without spending a dime is to update the floor plan. Rearranging existing furniture breathes new life into rooms, and makes great use of existing  peices. An easy way to do this is to use graph paper to rougly sketch out your room’s size and figure out how the pieces will work best before you put the effort into moving them. Once you are happy with your new layout, you can move on to updating  your decor for fall time. A great and easy way to do this is to incorperate luxe, rich textures in throw pillows, blankets and a new area rug. Round rugs provide a nice feel to any room and help soften up hard lines. Think plush fabrics in faux fur, natural fleece, and shag rugs.

Scents are also very important to setting a room’s mood. Diffusers are a great way to add scent and moister to the dryer fall air. Try an essential oil blend of cinnamon, clove, vanilla, orange, and nutmeg. Candles also do double-duty by introducing soft, warm light to contrast the impending chill outside.

Lastly, as pet owners we cannot leave our furry friends out! Get your cat or dog a new bed so they have a spot to sit in your new cozy living room and enjoy the company. Or if you do not have a furry friend, visit your local shelter and change a cat or dog’s life by giving them a forever home! They will instantly make your home feel more cozy and inviting.

Fall Decor on a Budget

Fall Decor on a Budget

A new season is here, totally time to redecorate and bring some fall into the house. Only problem is, most of the gorgeous pieces advertised, are always out of the budget. Luckily, we have the internet to provide us with some great DIY tips. One of my favorite ideas I’ve used over the last year is buying things from the dollar store and redesigning them to look a little more high end. Not only does it save me a lot of money, its a fun challenge to see how I can customize things.

On my first trip to the dollar store this season, I found quite a few things to stock up on. I got some plastic pumpkins (they come in a variety of different shapes and sizes), fake leaves, candles, felt cut outs (shaped like leaves, acorns, and pumpkins), a whole bunch of silk flowers (in fall colors of course), and a vases. A lot of items can be reused when you change it up for the season, but some pieces you might want to keep for the following year (depending on how good they come). I also stocked up on some hot glue, spray paint, and glitter paint (a lot of which I had leftover from my last crafting project).

My first project was the pumpkins. I chose to go with a white theme – just to match the colors that I have in my living and dining room, but you can chose whatever matches. It took a couple coats of paints, but it magically transformed the pumpkins into high end looking pieces. Some of them were open at the top (to be filled with candy) so I filled those up with the flowers, and some of the pumpkins didn’t have the holes in them.

I was able to use the felt shapes to create the effect of a runner on my dining room table – hot glued the pieces together just to make sure they didn’t move around too much. I then coated the insides of the vases with glitter spray, and used them as candle holders – really high end look for only a few dollars – and likely a piece I can use again during the holidays.

The best part is, it really gives you a chance to make it your own. When you head to the store, don’t pay attention to the colors/materials things are made out of – just imagine what you can make them look like. And have fun!

Fall Decorating

Just a few simple Fall decorating ideas to help spruce up any home!

Pretty Leaf Pressings

To preserve the beauty of colorful fall foliage, press leaves between books. When fully dry, display leaves between two pieces of same sized glass. Secure the pieces of glass together by wrapping the edges with colored, linen book cloth tape. Add a berry-covered branch for a simple, yet elegant mantel display.

Pumpkins with Functions

Little gourds can be a big help in keeping a festive tablecloth in place, especially when it’s used for an outdoor gathering. Add grommets to a tablecloth (use a grommet kit, available at crafts stores). Then attach string to the pumpkins and loop through the grommets for functional seasonal fair.

Fall Fill

Looking for an inexpensive, yet chic fall vase filler? Try dried beans. Fill a hurricane vase with about two inches of white beans and added branch of yellow berries. Experiment with different color combinations, such as red kidney beans with orange berries.

Wreath of Plenty

Add a warm touch to a front door using autumn’s bounty of free and colorful craft supplies. Incoporate the season’s natural decorations into a welcoming wreath. Start with a basic wreath form (either made from florist’s foam or a plain grapevine wreath) and attach gourds, mini pumpkins and leaves using hot-glue or wire.

Fall is Here!

Fall is my favorite time of the year. Time to break out the scarecrows, leaves and pumpkins. Time for scarves, boots and hot cider. The leaves are changing day by day, to beautiful shades of reds, oranges, yellows, browns, and greens  Pumpkins and apples are back in full swing. Be prepared to find those flavors added to any of your favorite treats. This time of the year my house smells like a warm cinnamon apple pie all day long. That alone puts you in the autumn spirit. I live in a small apartment so there is only so much I can decorate with out taking away from my tiny space. My holiday decoration go-to are the little gel window stick-on. They’re only a dollar and vary from Holiday, season, and even phrases. I put them on my windows and mirrors. They can add pizazz to any decor. I have my fall pumpkins out with the fake leaves to dress up my table. another thing i like to do with the season change is switch up my curtains and lampshades. Take away the summer colors and add a warmer feel, with some shades of red or burgundy. The easiest way to freshen up your room without spending a dime is to just rearrange the decor, such as the couches or television set. There is nothing more relaxing to come home to after a long day at work, or waking up to, is a clean and fresh home. The warm apple pie wax melts are enough to give the harvest feel to any space big or small.
