Same or Different?

I just moved into a new house.  I am not the best decorator in the world, I usually change little things in a room and call it “redecorating,” but as I am now faced with an entire house, I have a bigger problem on my hands.  My current dilemma is, does everything have to match?

There is always this huge dilemma on what I should do on my enclosed porch. It is great when spring rolls around, because  that’s when I remove the screens from the windows. This makes it nice and cool in the spring and summer time, and I can sit at the porch and enjoy this glorious time of year. There is only one huge  problem every year. The glare and the light can be very intense. You would think that is an easy fix, but it isn’t. You see the issue that I keep having is that the window isn’t fully enclosed, so when the screens come out Mother Nature comes right in and takes over! How am I going to solve this problem?

Doors

Doors, doors, doors what to do with them? There are all types of doors with all different problems presented. My big concern right now is sliding doors. I have no idea what to do on them.  They are big and wide with an intrusive amount of glass that always needs to be covered. So the big dilemma is, how do I cover them?  To explain a sliding door  in plain English,  it is a door that slides and collapses into each other. They can either go from left to right or right to left. Sliding doors on average are about six feet and have two panel doors. Then there are over sized sliders which are usually anything above ninety six inches.  These doors tend to have three to four panels. On a three panel door either the middle one slides, and the two sides are stationary, or vice versa where the sides slide in and the middle is stationary. The same concept is used for a four panel sliding door.

French Doors

As I sit here and give myself a headache on what to do on my French doors, I feel as I am going to go mad. You see I have a set of French doors in my living room. The problem I am having is that the sun blast right through them, the sun ruining my hardwood floors and my leather furniture. I can’t watch television because the glare lands right on the television during the day.  At night I feel like I am in a fish bowl everyone can pretty much look in. This is maddening!  I am a prisoner in my own home, and because of these doors I can’t use my living room.

Conventional wisdom says always go neutral because you never know what you might change in the future. I am here to say forget that! Do as you wish as long as you do it the right way. You see there is an art form of picking out a color for your blinds, paint etc. You just have to be enlightened to the dos and don’ts of color selections when it comes to blinds. There are a millions colors and tones and new ones being created everyday.  Need help choosing? Here are a few steps to follow!
