Mason Jar used for gifting ideas. DIY

Mason Jar Gifts

Mason Jar Gifts

The popularity of mason jars has grown through the last few years. And why not- they are cute and functional! A growing trend is using the jars to give gifts – and they are the perfect small gifts for neighbors, co-workers, and friends. Of course, some ideas are more appropriate for one audience vs another, so we have compiled a list to help you out.

Cupcakes in a jar – Of course there is a company that hit it big on Shark Tank with this idea already, but you can keep it low scale, and make them yourself in much smaller batches. Just bake the cupcake directly in the jar – make sure to only fill it a little more than half way so you have room to add frosting and toppings.

Hot cocoa in a jar – Fill up half of the jar with your favorite hot cocoa mix, and then fill the rest with marshmallows. This is a fairly inexpensive option as well because you can buy the mix in bulk and fill up a lot of jars.

S’mores in a jar – Add in graham crackers, a couple Hershey bars, and some big marshmallows, and you have instant s’mores!

Bunch of cookies in a jar, please eat me!

Chocolate chip cookies in a jar – Layer the ingredients, and attach a small piece of paper with the instructions. Aside from the ingredients you have added instruct them to preheat the over to 375, add 1 egg, ¾ teaspoon of vanilla extract, and bake for 9 to 11 minutes. These are the ingredients for you to layer in the jar.:

  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups (9 ounces) semi-sweet chocolate chips

Candy jar – Fill up the jar with any variety of candy – just chose colorful candies – they are the decoration and the treat!

Frozen window that needs cellular shades to keep the house nice and cozy. Inspiration Interior Designers Tips and Advice

Cooler Nights

Unfortunately, at this point in the year, most of us have had to turn on the heat. It’s always a reminder of the window that is a little too drafty, or the door that isn’t sealed as well as it should be – and makes us start considering the cold months that lie ahead of us. With the holidays ahead, it is also a time we do not want to start too many new projects. The good thing is, covering your windows is a fairly simple process that can solve a lot of your heat issues fairly quickly.

The best option for keeping the cool air out of your house is a hard window treatment – something that lies closest to your window opening. Rollers and roman shades will provide a barrier to the outdoors, but ultimately cellular shades are the go to product if you are looking to insulate the windows.

The greatest thing about the cellular shades are all of the options. They are available from the most basic, white fabric, that raise up and down with a string, to the most complex shades that you can operate from your couch with a touch of a remote control. But, let me back up in case you are not familiar with them. Cellular shades are a polyester shade, comprised of two layers of material that create an air pocket – therefore keeping out the cold air in the winter – and have the reverse effect of keeping in the air conditioning in the summer.

The shades are available in a wide variety of colors, and patterns. They can be made sheer – to still give the feeling of an open room, light filtering – private but let light into the room, or darkening – for those of you that enjoy sleeping in on the weekends or an occasional afternoon nap. They can be made as simple as pulling a string to raise them, or without cords that can just be pushed up or down. They also have a feature where they can both raise from the bottom and lower from the top – if you need some privacy in a nosy neighborhood. And the newest feature, is that they can be motorized – and operate from a remote control. The great part about all of these options is that you are open to matching the décor of any room in your home, and to fit the project into any budget as well.

Harmony Roman Shades

Harmony Roman Shades

The newest addition to the Blinds To Go lineup is the gorgeous new Harmony line. The newest roman shades are an upgrade to an old standard of shade that have been around for a long time. Of course, with any upgrade though, they have a ton of new options, and can breathe life into any room in need of an update.

The most obvious change to the new line of roman shades is the fabric. The traditional fabrics still remain – so you have plenty of solids and linens. The new fabrics though really change the game. From chevron to paisleys, the newest fabrics come in bold, strong colors. There are blues, teals, and oranges that can really make a pop in a room. There is a wide range of grays that will match to the gray palette that is so popular in home décor right now. There are also of course the neutrals, the beiges, and the whites, the off whites, that will stand the test of time.

The new line also comes with an array of new options. They can fall flat, in a style reminiscent of a waterfall, traditional with the ribbing, or the classic style with the folds in the fabric that give the shade another layer of dimension. The shades can come with a continuous cord loop – which would be attached to the wall for child safety, cordless – with the ease of pushing the shade up and pulling it down easily, and motorized – which can be programmed with a remote to raise and lower all of the shades in one room with a single button.

The best part is, no matter which style you chose, it will transform the look of your room. Even the most simple pattern will bring a new dimension to the room, and the most bold patterns will make you question if you walked into your house or your neighbors at the end of a long day. Happy Decorating!!
